The MacNail construction accounting software gives you
several different ways to handle sales tax or discounts.
*
To include sales tax or discounts in each individual construction item:
1. Enter a sales tax rate or discount rate for each supplier in the Master Index. If you pay two different
rates to one supplier, enter the supplier twice, with a different tax rate for each line.
2. Choose *MacNail Options from the OPTIONS menu, and put a check beside Include Sales Tax? When you add
rows to the Material Log, sales tax will be included.
3. This method is best if you often have materials for several jobs on one invoice.
NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by
Goldenseal construction
accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that
includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and
project billing, plus estimating and other features.
Goldenseal also gives you several ways to handle job
costing of sales tax.
*
To handle sales tax as a separate line item:
1. Choose *MacNail Options from the OPTIONS menu, and remove the check beside Include Sales Tax? The next
time you add rows to the Material Log, sales tax will not be included in the new items.
2. Type in sales tax for each invoice on its own line, and give it the construction cost code of ST. If one
invoice covers more than one job, enter a pro-rated amount for each job.
3. Use this method if you include sales tax in your estimates, and wish to track sales tax as a separate
item
*
To change sales tax for just some items:
1. Select the row or rows you would like to change.
2. Choose *Sales Tax from the FORMULA menu. If the selected row or rows include sales tax or discounts, it
will be removed. If the selected row or rows do not include sales tax or discounts, it will be added.
