Material Costs Info

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal includes Material Purchases, which are similar to the Material Log in MacNail.

Job Number

The MacNail construction accounting software uses a "lookup" system of job numbers. Enter the job number in the job# column. Use the categories from the Master Index. You can check the job name in the job name column to make sure you entered the proper code number.

Business Number

Enter the supplier number in the biz# column. Use the code numbers for each supplier, as found in the Master Index. You can check the supplier name in the who? column to make sure you entered the proper code number.

Dates

Enter the invoice or shipping date in the date column. If you are using accrual accounting, use the shipping date.

Enter the invoice number in the invc # column. If there is no invoice number, you can leave this cell blank.

Item of Work

Enter a brief description of the actual material item or items in the item column. This description is not necessary for actual job costing, but you will find it useful if you ever need a detailed look at the materials that go into any project.

HINT: You do not need to enter every single material item from an invoice. If you have a large group of framing materials, you can enter something like 'framing materials' as an item name, and then enter the total cost directly into the total column.

Units

Enter the number of material units in the units column. For example, if you have six 2x4's at $1.89 each, enter 6 here. If you don't see a number of units, enter 1 here.

Unit Prices

Enter the price per unit in the unit pr column. For example, if you have six 2x4's at $1.89 each, enter 1.89 here.

HINT: If the invoice doesn't show a unit price, you can bypass the unit and unit price cells, and type the price for the item directly into the total column.
