Location Packages

Use Location Packages to determine a set of Locations that are available for a job. Use them if you have a large number of Cost Locations, and don't want to see them all in every transaction, when you do data entry in the Goldenseal accounting software.

When to Use Location Packages

Use location packages if you have a long list of locations, and want to restrict the ones that show for each type of job.

EXAMPLE-- a construction company might want to have packages that include items inside a building, and outside a building.

To set Goldenseal so it uses Location Packages, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Options menu, then choose Data Entry from the submenu.
  2. Turn on the Use Location Packages checkbox.
  3. Click OK.

NOTE-- If you turn off the Use Location Packages checkbox, the Location field will always show all locations.

Entering Location Packages

To enter a Location Package, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Location Setup from the Costs menu, then choose Location Packages from the submenu.
  2. Click the New button, or click on an existing item and click the Edit button.
  3. Enter details for the package.

Data Fields

The Location Package shows a list of  Locations.  Click on the checkmark for each item that you want to include in this package.

HINT-- Click the Edit Locations button to enter new locations, or change the ones you already have.

Enter the following information for each Location Package:

Name-- Type in a brief name for this package. This is the text that will appear in clairvoyant fields.
Description-- Type in any comments you'd like to make about this item.
Location Table-- Click next to a location to include it in this package.

Using Location Packages

Enter a Location Package into the Location Package field in Customer accounts, Overhead accounts and Project accounts.
When you enter costs for that job, only the locations listed in the selected package will be available in the Location field.

NOTE-- If you don't enter a location package, Goldenseal will show all locations in the Locations field, when you enter transactions for that job account.
