Installing Goldenseal

To install the Goldenseal estimating software and accounting software, use the instructions that apply to your computer.

Installing From a Macintosh Download

If you are just trying out Goldenseal, you can download the demo version from our website--click here.

After you have downloaded the demo, follow these steps:

  1. Decompress the GSDemo.sit or GSDemoX file with Stuffit, Stuffit Expander or Zipit (recommended for OS X). 
  2. You'll see the Goldenseal Demo application (tree icon) and a Sample Company File which is already set up for a small construction company.
  3. Double-click on the Sample Company File to open Goldenseal and use the sample.

If you just purchased Goldenseal and want to start working with the full program immediately, follow these steps:

  1. Download the full Goldenseal program from our website.
  2. Decompress the download file with Stuffit, Stuffit Expander or Zipit (recommended for OS X).
  3. You'll see the Goldenseal application (tree icon). Put it anywhere that is convenient on your hard drive.
  4. You'll also need to download a Starter File for your business.

You can also download new version updates from our website as we release them (you get 12 months of free downloads with your purchase, and can then renew for additional periods). After you download a Goldenseal update, follow these steps:

  1. Drag your earlier version of Goldenseal into the trash can.
  2. Decompress the download file with Stuffit, Stuffit Expander or Zipit (recommended for OS X).
  3. You'll see the Goldenseal application (tree icon). Put it in the Goldenseal folder (or wherever you kept the previous version of the Goldenseal program).

Installing From a Windows Download

Goldenseal requires QuickTime (available as a free download, if you don't already have it). For more about QuickTime, click here.

We have a free demo version of Goldenseal on our website. If you want to download the Goldenseal demo and haven't done that yet, click here.

After you have downloaded the demo, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click on the GSDemo installer icon.
  2. Follow instructions. 
  3. When the installer is finished, click the Start Button at lower left, choose Programs from the popup menu, choose Goldenseal, then choose Sample Company File.

If you just purchased Goldenseal and want to start working with the full program immediately, follow these steps:

  1. If you don't already have the Goldenseal demo installed on your computer, install it with the steps above.
  2. Download the update.
  3. Decompress the download file with WinZip.
  4. Run the Update program.
  5. It will automatically replace the Goldenseal demo with the full program.

  1. Download the update.
  2. Decompress the download file with WinZip.
  3. Run the Update program.
  4. It will automatically replace the Goldenseal demo with the full program.

Installing From a Macintosh CD

To load Goldenseal from a Macintosh CD, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the CD into your CD drive.
  2. Double-click on the CD icon (the small picture of a CD on the right side of your screen). You'll see a window that shows the contents of the CD.
  3. Check the color of the apple on the upper left corner of your screen. If it is blue, drag Goldenseal for OS X onto your hard drive. If it has multiple colors, drag Goldenseal for OS 9 onto your hard drive. 
  4. Drag the Goldenseal Files folder onto your hard drive.
  5. Double-click on the Goldenseal Files folder to see its contents.
  6. Double-click on the Sample Company File to open Goldenseal and use the sample.

HINT-- Check the 'Read Me' file for recent information that was unavailable when the manual was written.

Installing From a Windows CD

Goldenseal requires QuickTime-- there is a free QuickTime installer on the Goldenseal CD. If you don't already have QuickTime on your computer, double-click on the QuickTimeFullInstaller icon on the CD to get it onto your computer.

To load Goldenseal from a Windows CD, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the CD into your CD drive.
  2. Double-click on My Computer (its icon is usually at the upper left corner of your screen).
  3. Double-click on your CD drive (generally the D drive).
  4. Double-click on the Setup icon.
  5. Follow instructions. 
  6. When the installer is finished, click the Start Button at lower left, choose Programs from the popup menu, choose Goldenseal, then choose Sample Company File.

If you don't see an icon for My Computer, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the CD into your CD drive.
  2. Click the Start button, and choose Run.
  3. Type D:\setup.
  4. Follow instructions. 
  5. When the installer is finished, click the Start Button at lower left, choose Programs from the popup menu, choose Goldenseal, then choose Sample Company File.

HINT: Check the 'Read Me' file for recent information that was unavailable when the manual was written.
