Helpful Hints for Goldenseal Downloads

Download Help

If you are having trouble downloading our demo version files or manuals, here are some possible solutions:

  • Did you wait for the download to finish? You can't save the Getting Started manuals until the whole document has been downloaded. Check the progress % at the bottom of the window, or click here to see usual download times. HINT-- In Windows, you can right-click on the manual link, and save the file immediately without opening it first.
  • Does your browser 'time out' before the download is finished? You may need to adjust preferences so it can finish.
  • Is there heavy internet traffic? That can cause slow or unsuccessful downloads. You may need to try again later.
  • Is the enough space on your hard drive? If it is almost full, you'll need to free up some space for the download files.
  • Are you having problems opening the file? Most Goldenseal files are compressed for faster transmission over the Internet. You'll need to use a decompression program to unstuff the files before you can actually use them. HINT-- if the file extension is .zip or .sit, the file is compressed.
  • Are you getting other error messages? You can call our tech support line at 607 272-1008 for download help-- available M-F 9 AM to 6 PM Eastern Time, or email to support@turtlesoft.com any time. If you get an error message, let us know exactly what it said, and it will be easier for us to understand the problem.

About QuickTime

QuickTime is a free utility from Apple Computer which the Windows version of Goldenseal uses for sounds and graphics. Many Windows computers already include QuickTime, but if it's not already on your computer, you'll need to install QuickTime Player to run Goldenseal or the Goldenseal Demo.

HINT-- You can also use QuickTime to view web videos and listen to web music.

When you buy Goldenseal or the Goldenseal Demo on a CD, we automatically include a QuickTime installer.

If you download the demo version, you may need to download QuickTime so you can run the demo.

The Goldenseal installer will check to see if you already have QuickTime on your computer. If not, you can download it for free from the Apple website-- just click here.

HINT-- Download the free QuickTime Player. When it asks you to fill in registration info, you can just leave the fields blank.

About Adobe Acrobat

The Goldenseal Getting Started manuals are available as Adobe Acrobat documents, so anyone can read them on any computer. If you don't already have Acrobat Reader, it's a free download-- just click here.

HINT-- Any files that have a .pdf suffix are Adobe Acrobat documents.

Decompression Programs (Stuffit, WinZip, ZipIt)

Some Goldenseal files are compressed, so they won't take so long to download.

To unzip files on Windows, use Winzip (for free download, click here).
To unzip files on Macintosh OS 9, use Stuffit Expander (for free download, click here).

To unzip files on Macintosh OS X, use Zipit (for free download, click here).

HINT-- You can also use Stuffit Expander to decompress Mac OS X files, but some users have reported problems with that program. Zipit seems more reliable.
