Soil Removal Cost, Machine Load

Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION

Excavation unit cost for removing soil or other fill, using a backhoe or bucket loader.

Unit Size

One cubic yard of soil or other fill materials.

Labor and Equipment Costs

We figure 5 cubic yards of soil removed per hour, using a backhoe or bucket loader (with operator) and a dump truck. This figure assumes a fairly short haul (less than 30 minutes round trip travel time).

We also include one unskilled hour per 25 cubic yards removed for miscellaneous chores.

Material Costs

None.

Suggested Quantity

No suggestion. Enter an estimate of the volume of soil removal that is required.

Source of Construction Pricing

This pricing is based on estimates using our job cost data from Turtle Creek Construction. Use it as a "rule of thumb" price for average conditions, and replace it with firm subcontractor quotes if they are available.

If you are removing a large volume of soil, the price will probably be lower. In that case the cost of removal is high enough that you should probably calculate machine and crew times more accurately than this "rule of thumb" figure.
