Assemblies: Units per Quantity

Feature

Starting with Goldenseal construction estimating software version 4.8, estimating assemblies show both unit quantities like hours per square foot, and the inverse (square feet per hour).

When calculating or checking assemblies, people may think of the quantity either way, and now you can use whichever makes the most sense.

How to Use

You don't have to do anything special-- in Assembly records, the Qty column shows the quantity of material or labor for each construction unit, while the 1/Qty column shows the number of construction units (e.g. square feet) completed in one hour of labor, or from one purchased unit of materials.

HINT-- You can enter a number into either column, and Goldenseal will automatically calculate the price, and the other quantity.

Here are examples of how to think of some different labor and material assembly components:

Item
Qty
1/Qty
Labor installing plywood or drywall Hours per Sq Foot of wall Sq Feet of wall per Hour
Plywood or drywall materials Sheets per Sq Foot of wall Sq Feet of wall per Sheet
Labor installing gutters Hours per Foot Feet per Hour
Gutter materials Gutter pieces per Foot Feet per piece of gutter
Labor installing windows Hours per Window Windows per Hour

HINT-- If you just can't figure out how to calculate a unit cost, try entering any number, and then check whether the final cost seems logical. You can keep tweaking until it looks right.
