Starting with Goldenseal payroll software version 4.3, you can use the Time Tracking command to "log in" hours for each employee.

NOTE-- This system works best if you have employees working at a computer, or if there is a computer at the worksite that they can use to enter the time when they switch projects, or switch from one type of work to another.

How to Use

Before you use the time tracking feature, set up a different password for each employee. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Passwords from the Options menu.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Fill in a password and other details.
  4. Enter a specific employee into the Employee field.
  5. Use the Time Tracking popup field to set the tracking access for this employee.
  6. If the employee only uses Goldenseal to enter their own hours, turn on the No Other Access checkbox.
  7. If the employee can enter any times, turn on the Flexible Time Entry checkbox. Turn it off if you use Goldenseal as a "time clock".
  8. Click OK.
  9. Repeat steps 2 to 8 for each employee.

When an employee starts work, do the following:

  1. Choose Time Tracking from the File menu.
  2. Enter the planned start time, and the work you plan to do (optional).
  3. Click the Start Work button.
  4. Goldenseal will start tracking your hours.

When an employee stops work, do the following:

  1. Choose Time Tracking from the File menu.
  2. Fill in details about the work you have completed.
  3. Click the Stop Work button.
  4. Goldenseal will log in details of the work you have completed.

When an employee switches projects, or switches from one type of work to another, do the following:

  1. Choose Time Tracking from the File menu.
  2. Fill in details about the work you have completed.
  3. Click the Start Work button.
  4. Goldenseal will log in details of the work you have completed, and start tracking the current work.

Technical Details

This one ended up being more complicated than we first thought! Please give us feedback, since the overall design may need some improvement. The current dialog may be too complicated for some employees.
