Percent of Equipment Costs

Feature

Starting with version 3.9, Goldenseal estimating software allows you to add a "soft cost" line item that is calculated as a percentage of the total equipment cost, or other costs.

NOTE-- This feature is similar to the current "percent of labor", "percent of materials" and "percent of subcontractors" options. With them, you can now add percentage adjustments that are based on any of the five possible cost areas.

How to Use

To calculate a "soft cost" such as supervision or overhead as a percentage of equipment costs, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Estimates from the Income menu.
  2. Locate an estimate with an Items breakdown.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the breakdown table.
  4. Click in the last row of the breakdown table.
  5. Hit the Enter key or Return key to add a new row.
  6. Click in the Cost Area column, and enter Percent of Equipment.
  7. Type the percentage into the Quantity column.
  8. Goldenseal will calculate the cost as a percentage of all equipment costs. That includes equipment line items, plus the equipment portions of any Assemblies.

HINT-- You can add equipment soft costs to cover supervision time, maintenance time, sales tax paid on other costs, or any other expense that you can think of, that is best calculated as a percentage of the hard costs for equipment or other.
