Piecework Rates in Payroll

Feature

We're adding piecework rates to the payroll software portion of Goldenseal, available in version 3.5 and later.

When to Use

You can use the piecework feature whenever you pay employees by the sheet, square foot, block, brick, cubic furlong, square millimeter, declawed polecat or any other unit.

NOTE-- If you pay by the piece and deduct withholding, then use the piecework features in Labor Hours, as described here. If you pay by the piece and do not deduct withholding, then enter the work as Subcontractor Costs instead.

How to Use

Goldenseal construction payroll software allows you to have up to four different piecework rates for each employee.

The program comes with four different rate options in Labor Hours records (by the unit, piece, sheet or block). If you use some other unit size for your "piece" quantities, you can change the name of each unit size.

If you use square feet or if you use more than one piecework rate and don't like our names, follow these steps to change them:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Options menu, and choose Interface from the submenu.
  2. Type different names into the four Piecework Name fields on the right.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Accounts from the submenu.
  5. Enter Employee Accounts into the Account Type popup field at upper left.
  6. Enter Payroll Setup into the Layout popup field.
  7. Double-click on each of the titles in the Piecework Rates section, and type in the four names you'd like to use instead.
  8. Choose Save from the File menu.

To enter the rates you pay each employee, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Employees from the Accounts menu.
  2. Click the Payroll Setup button.
  3. Type piecework rates into the four Piecework fields.
  4. Click OK.

To enter piecework amounts, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Labor Hours from the Costs menu.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Enter the employee.
  4. Type the number of pieces finished into the Time Spent field, and click on the popup field to type the type of pieces.
  5. Enter job cost info and other details, just the same as hourly wages.
