Assigning Overtime to Specific Jobs

How can I charge overtime hours to a specific project?

If you don't do anything special, Goldenseal construction payroll software will take the extra cost of overtime, and distribute it among all of the jobs that the employee worked on during the pay period.

If you want to have more control of how overtime is charged for job costing and T&M billing, then you can adjust your Labor Hours records to allocate overtime costs more deliberately.

Jobs with Overtime

To assign the extra cost of overtime to a specific project, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Labor Hours from the Costs menu.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Enter the number of hours that get the overtime rate.
  4. Click on the Details popup field, and choose Overtime Rate.
  5. Enter the job into the Job Class and Job fields.
  6. Hit the Enter key to save the record.

NOTE-- Labor Hours with overtime will automatically include the overtime cost in the wage amount. It uses the Daily Overhead calculation for the Wage Schedule used for these hours, so you can use different calculations for different types of work, if necessary.

Jobs without Overtime

To enter hours for other projects that do not get the overtime charge, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Labor Hours from the Costs menu.
  2. Click the New button.
  3. Enter the number of hours that get the straight time rate.
  4. Click on the Details popup field, and choose No Overtime.
  5. Enter the job into the Job Class and Job fields.
  6. Hit the Enter key to save the record.
