VPN Troubleshooting

I'm having problems with my VPN connection!

Here's are some checklists for Virtual Private Network connections.

New Connection

Here's what to check, when you are setting up a new VPN connection and it doesn't work:

  1. Can you connect outside of Goldenseal? If not, it may be a hardware or network problem.
  2. Does your firewall allow access to the Goldenseal port? It should not block 18259 (or a different # if you changed the port).
  3. Can you connect to the Goldenseal server over your local network (LAN)? If not, it's a general network problem.

Existing Connection that Used to Work

Here's what to check, if your VPN connection used to work, but now it doesn't:

  1. Can you connect outside of Goldenseal? If not, it may be a hardware or network problem.
  2. Did you change the firewall settings? It should not block 18259 (or a different # if you changed the port).
  3. Are you using the correct Goldenseal port to sign on? The client and server need to use the same one!
  4. Can you connect to the Goldenseal server over your local network (LAN)? If not, it's a general network problem.
