Developer Tools Menu

How do I use the Developer Tools menu?

In Goldenseal small business software, the Developer Tools menu is normally locked, so users can't get inside.

It contains four types of undocumented menu commands:

  • Commands that are dangerous, and that should be used only under our supervision.
  • Commands that are dangerous, that we use internally in our testing and development.
  • Commands that are dangerous, that we are experimenting with and that probably don't work.
  • Commands that are dangerous, that we are experimenting with and that will do something nasty.

If there is a good reason for you to get inside, or if you are dying of curiosity and can't sleep until you have cracked this mystery, then here's how to open the Developer Tools menu:

  1. Make a backup copy of your company file.
  2. Hold down the Option key (Macintosh) or Alt key (Windows) and keep holding it down.
  3. Click in any record window.
  4. Choose Security from View menu.
  5. Choose Developer Tools from the submenu.
  6. Don't choose any commands unless you have checked with us and made sure it's OK.
  7. All these commands are dangerous!

WARNING-- The commands in the Developer Tools menu are dangerous! They can permanently damage your data, in ways that may not be apparent when you first use them. If you think you need to use one of the commands there, be sure to back up your company file before doing so. Also, please contact us first and let us know why you think you need to use Developer Tools, and confirm that it's OK before taking any action. Usually there is a better way to accomplish whatever it is you want, and if so, we'll tell you.

Click here to return to business file topics (and yes, the commands in Developer Tools are still dangerous!).
