Can I add more numbers
to the Balance Sheet or Income Statement?
Sure. Goldenseal construction
accounting software uses calculators to fill in each value in those reports,
and you can easily add more calculators to the report.
For an example, we'll add a percentage next to the Material Expenses value.
First, take a look at the report. To do so, follow these steps:
- Choose Custom
Layouts
from the Options menu, and choose Reports from the submenu.
- Enter Financials into the Area popup field at upper left.
- Enter Income Statement into the Report popup field at upper left.
Next, take a look at the calculators that are already in the report, so you know what to
use for the math.
- Hold down the Control
key and double-click on the value field under Accrued, and next to Material Expenses.
- You'll see details for the calculator that
fills in values there (it's a Utility
Account Calculation called Equip Expense
Accr in Range).
- Click cancel, and double-click on the bold total value under Accrued (it's a Summation
Calculation called Accrued Expenses in Range).
Now you are ready to create a custom calculation that will divide material expenses by the
total. To do so, follow these steps:
- Close the Custom Layouts window.
- Choose Calculations from the Options menu, and choose Custom from the submenu.
- Click the New button.
- Enter "Material Percent" into the Name field.
- Enter Utility Accounts into the First Source popup field.
- Enter Equip Expense
Accr in Range into the First Calculator clairvoyant field.
- Enter Divide by Calculator into the Calculation Type field.
- Enter Summations into the Second Source popup field.
- Enter Accrued Expenses in Range in the Second Calculator clairvoyant field.
- Click OK.
Finally, you can add the calculator to the report. To do so, follow these steps:
- Choose Custom
Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Reports from the submenu.
- Click on the Calculator tool in the palette on the left side of the window (it's in row 4 on the right).
- Click on the layout and drag a rectangle where you'd like to add the new number.
- Goldenseal will show you a calculator selection list.
- Enter Custom into the Type popup field, and click on Material Percent in the list.
- Click OK.
- Goldenseal will add a new calculated field to the layout.
- Choose Number Format from the Format menu, and turn on the Show as Percent checkbox.
- Click OK.
- Choose Save from the File menu.
