Calculating Unit Prices

Problem

How to customize the unit prices?
calculating man-hours for unit prices in MacNail construction estimating software

Diagnosis

Unit prices are in the estimate at the far right (just before the item code). They are skilled labor and unskilled labor (in hours per unit), and materials (dollar per unit). Type in new numbers in these cells to change the prices.

Solution

• to calculate manhours:
METHOD 1---calculate the number of hours it would take a crew to do 100 square feet (or lineal feet, etc--whatever the unit is in column B). Divide by 100, then divide again by the number of people in the crew.
METHOD 2---calculate the number of units a crew can do in one hour. Divide 1 by (the number of units times the crew size)

to check the new unit prices: type 1 (or 100, something predictable) into the "units used" column to make sure it comes up with a reasonable price.
