Problem
can you post from ledgers to logs?
wants to enter checks first, then move them to Labor,
Material, Subcontractor or Misc Logs, splitting
costs automatically in MacNail construction
accounting software for Macintosh and Windows computers
Diagnosis
The answer is no.
Our system (enter invoices in a log, then post to ledger) is better. It allows costs to be entered earlier
(since invoices or delivery tickets are available before the end of the month) and is no more work than splitting
payments. Just enter costs in the log, then post to ledger at the end of the month.
NOTE-- Our newer Goldenseal accounting software uses
a similar work flow, with Material
Purchases to start, and then
Banking
Transactions to handle the cash transfer when the item is paid.
Solution
ENTERING OLD COSTS:
If they want to use logs and are going back in time, entering checks already written, then they WILL have
to enter by hand into both ledgers and logs (since checks were already written). In the future they won't have to
hand-enter checks, since the 'post to ledger' command will do that for them automatically.
A NOTE ABOUT SPLITTING PAYMENTS QUICKEN STYLE
In Quicken you write checks, then divide it into separate jobs.
If they want to do it that way, use the ledger for job
costing and use the 'split payout' feature to divide
each check. Don't even use logs (in Job Cost Options, turn OFF the 'use logs' options).
