Payroll Record Keeping

The MacNail payroll accounting software uses the Labor Logbook to keep track of each employee's hours. Since the same information is also used for job costing, you can get double duty out of the same information.

NOTE: In this payroll chapter, we will often refer to a payroll period of one week, since that is the period used by most businesses. If you use a period of some other length, you will be able to adjust the pay period to suit your own conditions--please ignore the references to the week's payroll!

Record Keeping

The easiest way to get information into the MacNail construction payroll software is to keep a Job Log on each of your jobsites. If you have a central office, you can also keep time cards there.

NOTE-- Our newer Goldenseal construction payroll software allows each employee to enter their own hours!

The information that is entered for labor job costing is also sufficient for generating payroll. You will need to be careful when data entering to make sure that the proper dates are entered, since MacNail payroll will use the date column of the Labor Logbook to determine which items fall in the previous pay period.

NOTE: If you are not using the Labor Logbook for job costing, but want to use it for payroll, enter one line each week for each employee, with that week's hours included. You do not need to assign it a job number or a construction cost code if you are only using the information for payroll
