Using State Payroll Blank

To adjust numbers in a State Payroll Blank in the MacNail accounting software, follow these steps:

2. After the Payroll Blank is open, scroll down a few rows to the section where Miscellaneous and Federal formula values are stored.
3. Check the SUTA percentage-- this assessment varies from one company to another, and you may need to use a different number. If you are adjust the Payroll Blank for a new tax year, you should also check the values in the latest Federal Circular E booklet, and type any changes into the 'Misc Formulas' and 'Federal IRS Formulas' sections. Updates are also available directly from Turtle Creek at the start of each new tax year.
4. To adjust state formula values, scroll to the right of the Federal tables.
5. If it's a new year and your state has changed any numbers in the 'formula method' of computing state tax withholding, then type new numbers into this section. Updates are also available directly from Turtle Creek at the start of each new tax year for the MacNail payroll software.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction payroll software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal also imports state tax info, from free downloads on our website.

Using more than one Payroll Blank

If you have employees who are residents of more than one state, or if you do work in more than one state, you may need to figure your employees' payroll using more than one State Payroll Blank.

Each week, make a Payroll Report using one of the states. Then choose Payroll Options from the Options menu, click on the Change buttons to switch to a different Payroll Blank, and run another Payroll Report for the remaining employees.

In most cases, you will also need to switch to a different Employee Index for the new state. To switch to a different Employee Index, choose Payroll Options from the Options menu, and click on the Change button next to the listing of the current Employee Index.
