Opening Ledgers

NOTE-- Goldenseal construction accounting software is the successor to MacNail, which we retired in 2000. Goldenseal is an integrated business management program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus construction cost estimating, contract writing and simple scheduling. It uses checking transactions to store the same type of info as MacNail Ledgers.

There are several ways to open a Ledger in the MacNail construction accounting software.

1. Open Main Files: Choose *Open Main Files from the FILE menu, and check Ledger. This will open whichever Ledger you have specified as the 'main' Ledger. This command can also be used to open any or all of the other 'main' accounting files.
2. *Open All: Choose *Open All from the FILE menu, and check Ledger. This command will open every Ledger that is currently in the Current Accounts folder.
3. *Open File: commandChoose *Open File from the FILE menu. When it shows you a list of Accounting file types, choose Ledger. You will be able to choose from a scrolling list of all Ledgers that are currently in the Current Accounts folder.
4. *Checkbook Ledger: commandChoose *Checkbook Ledger from the MacNAIL menu. If no Ledger is currently open, the 'main' Ledger will be opened.
If a Ledger is already open, it will be brought to the front.
If more than one Ledger is already open, the one in back will be brought to the front. Choose *Checkbook Ledger several times to cycle through each of the Ledgers that are currently open.
5. Opening Ledgers from the Finder: We do not recommend that you open a Checkbook Ledger by double-clicking it while you are in the Finder (on the Desktop). Full Ledgers are 'linked' to the Master Index, and opening the Ledger without having the index open first will cause some minor problems (see pages 218 and 224).
Open the Accounting Manager first instead, and use one of the commands listed on the previous page. It will automatically open the Master Index for you.
