Job Costing Subcategories |
One and Two layer Cost Tracking The MacNail job cost accounting software gives you two choices for the degree of detail in your job costing. * A one-layer cost control worksheet tracks job costs using just one level of construction categories. This will correspond to the Summation level of a MacNail estimate. You will enter job cost categories in the category column of Ledgers and Logbooks, and leave the subcategory column blank. * A two-layer cost control worksheet uses categories and subcategories for job costing. This will correspond to the Summation and Clearinghouse levels of an estimate from the MacNail construction estimating software. You will enter job cost categories in the category column of Ledgers and Logbooks, and subcategories in the subcategory column. NOTE-- Goldenseal job costing software also allows categories and subcategories, for tracking expenses and income. Goldenseal was released in 2000, and replaces MacNail accounting. We recommend that you use one-layer worksheets
for most of your jobs. Use the two-layer
worksheets only if you want the extra precision in your job costing,
and are willing
to spend the extra data entry time. |
