Job Costing Small Projects

You can use the Other Cost Control worksheet to track very small projects in the MacNail construction accounting software, or any other items that you want to job cost on only a general level. All small jobs will be entered as job number 0 unless you change the code on the Master Index.

NOTE-- Goldenseal construction accounting software replaced MacNail in 2000, with a much better job costing system. It's an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features.

Enter each small job onto a separate line of the Other Cost Control worksheet, along with a code number or letter(s) in the far left column. You will use this code in the category column of Ledgers or Logs, when job costing.

Each small job will have costs broken down into labor, materials and subs. If you need a more detailed breakdown, create a regular job Cost Control sheet instead.

HINT: Print out the Other Cost Control worksheet to use as a guide when entering data. It shows all cost categories on the far left.
