In the MacNail construction accounting software, you can
use the Query Box to find specific job cost expenses.
As an example, we might want to see the
total amount we have spent on materials on one particular project.
To find all materials used on the Matthews job:
1. If the Sample Material Log is not already in front, choose *Material Log from the MacNAIL menu.
2.Choose *Show Query Window from the FORMAT menu. This command creates a separate window that includes
the query box.
3. Use the Delete or Backspace key to clear any items that are already in the criteria.
4. Type 4 into the criteria under job #, and press the Enter key.
5. The total amount, cost control total, most recent item, and number of items for the Matthews job are automatically
displayed.
NOTE: If these numbers are not displayed, choose Calculate from the OPTIONS menu, and click Automatic.
6. To see the specific items, choose Find from the DATA menu. You can type command-F repeatedly to jump to
each item matching the current criteria.
7. To get an itemized listing of all items from the Matthews job, choose *Extract Special from the DATA menu.
A new file called Material Extract will be created, showing a list of all items matching the current criteria.
NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction
accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes
general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing,
plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal includes
a Find command, that makes it easy to find any expense records.
