Deleting Checks

NOTE-- Our newer Goldenseal construction accounting software also makes it easy to delete checks.

Deleting a check

If you decide not to print a check after you've already used the the MacNail accounting software to create a Check Printing file, you can delete it from the file before you print.

Follow these steps to delete a check:
1. Scroll down through the Check Printing file until you reach the check you want to delete.
2. Check for the page breaks (the dashed lines across the page).
3. Drag through the row numbers on the far right of the window: start just below the upper page break mark, and end just above the lower page break mark.
NOTE: Continuous-feed checks for a dot-matrix printer won't always show page break divisions for each check. For them, you'll have to figure the number of rows for each check (count the rows between the same item on two different checks), and delete that number of rows at the location of the proper check.
4. Choose Delete from the Edit menu. If the Delete command is greyed out, first choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu, then Delete. Remember to protect the document again when you are finished!

Printing multiple copies

Many check blanks automatically print a second (and sometimes a third) copy of the check information, usually on a blank leaf either above or below the actual check. You can send this copy with the actual check, or keep it for your own records.

If you want to keep an additional copy of each check for your own records, you can do either of the following things:
*Print a second copy-- when you first see the standard Print dialog box, type in 2 for the number of copies. If you want to print a second copy after you print the first, bring the Check printing file to the front, then choose Print from the File menu.

HINT: To save money, you can print onto plain paper the second time around!

*Store the Check printing file on disk as an electronic copy of the actual check. You can then refer to it with the computer, and print it out a second time if necessary. If you don't have enough space on your hard disk to store the old Check printing files, move them to a floppy disk or some other backup storage medium.
