Using Accounting Macros

The MacNail construction accounting software uses several lengthy macros to move information between different accounting worksheets. A few of these operations can take a while--approximate times are listed for each menu command in this section.

NOTE-- Goldenseal construction accounting software replaced MacNail in 2000. It's an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal does not require Excel, and does not require outside macros to run.

When running lengthy macros:macros, lengthy
1. If you use a screen saver, make sure that you have disabled it, so it won't come on in the middle of things.
2. If you use Smart Alarms, make sure that you don't have any messages that will come up while the macro is running.
3. If using MultiFinder, it is best not to switch to another program while the macro is running. Unpredictable results can sometimes occur.

A few hints when using lengthy macros:
1. Save all worksheets before beginning the macro.
2. Close all unnecessary documents before starting the macro. If memory gets tight, operations may slow down drastically.
3. Run lengthy macros when you don't need to use the computer for a while. We have planned them so you can enter data and look at reports and files very quickly. Only a few 'posting' processes take time.
4. Consider one of the faster Macs! All computer operations, not just MacNail, will be speeded up enormously. The faster Macs are about four times as fast as the Mac Plus and the Mac SE.

To interrupt a macro:
1. hold down the command (cloverleaf) key and type a period several times. A box will appear. Choose Halt (see page 228).
2. For best results, close all files and do not save changes.
