Replace All

The Replace All command puts a value into all the found records. It is a very convenient way to enter the same data into many records at once. This command is available in all versions of Goldenseal small business software.

WARNING-- You cannot use Undo to revert from the Replace All command! Be very careful when you use this feature!  If you are changing many records, you may want to make a backup copy before you do the replacement.

Using Replace All

Use the Replace All command whenever you want to enter the same data into several records.

For example, to mark several Contact Log phone calls as Urgent, follow these steps

  1. Choose Contact Log from the Income menu.
  2. Use the Find command to find the items you want to change.
  3. Click on the Status popup menu for any record, and choose Urgent from the popup menu.
  4. Choose Replace All from the Edit menu.
  5. You'll see a list of all fields that can be replaced. Choose Status.
  6. Click OK.
  7. You will be asked to confirm the replacement. Click OK.
  8. Goldenseal will put Urgent into the Status field of all found records.

Replacing Multiple Fields

If you want to replace several fields at the same time, follow the same steps as descibed above. At step 5, hold down the Shift or Command keys when you click.

The Shift key selects a block of items. The Command key lets you select or deselect individual items.

When you click OK, Goldenseal will replace the contents of all selected fields.

Replacing Text

You can use the Replace All command to substitute text within text fields.

To substitute text, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Replace All from the Edit menu.
  2. Enter Field Text into the Replace popup menu.
  3. Select the fields in which you'd like to substitute text.
  4. Enter the text you want to remove in the Find Text field.
  5. Enter the text you want to replace it with, in the Replace With field.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Goldenseal will substitute the Replace With text at each place it finds the Find text.

HINT-- To remove text entirely, leave the Replace With field blank.
