Text Gets Cut Off

Text gets cut off at the bottom or at the right!

In Goldenseal accounting software for Windows, this happens when the font is too large for the available space, so the text gets cut off. This problem can occur on the screen, or when printing.

Setting Screen DPI

Usually this problem happens when the user has set their monitor's dpi (dots per inch) setting to be larger, which enlarges ALL text everywhere. That enlarges all the text used in Goldenseal, which makes it is too big for the available space, so it cuts off.

To fix the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, and choose Control Panel. NOTE-- if Control Panel is not visible, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel from the submenu .
  2. Double-click on the Display icon.
  3. Click the Settings tab at the top.
  4. Click the Advanced button at the bottom.
  5. Click on the DPI Setting, and change it to Normal Size (96 dpi).
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the computer so the font change takes effect.

NOTE-- It appears that some manufacturers send out computers with the dpi setting changed, to make text larger on LCD screens. Unfortunately it is a rather extreme solution to the problem of smaller pixel sizes!

After doing the above, all text will be reset to normal size. If the user prefers to have larger text for window titles and menus, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, and choose Control Panel. NOTE-- if Control Panel is not visible, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel from the submenu.
  2. Double-click on the Display icon.
  3. Click the Appearance tab at the top.
  4. Click in the Font Size field, and change it to Large Fonts or Extra Large Fonts.
  5. Click OK.

If they want EVERYTHING bigger on their screen, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, and choose Control Panel. NOTE-- if Control Panel is not visible, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel from the submenu.
  2. Double-click on the Display icon.
  3. Click the Settings tab at the top.
  4. Drag the Screen resolution slider control to the left to give it a smaller number.
  5. Click OK.

Changing Fonts

If the DPI was already at normal size, then this problem is probably caused by a font that is too bulky. To change the fonts used in Goldenseal, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Goldenseal company file.
  2. Choose Preferences from the Options menu, and choose Interface from the submenu.
  3. Click on the Screen Font popup field in the middle, and change it to a different font. HINT-- Ariel Narrow and Helvetica are compact fonts that are still fairly easy to read on the screen.
  4. If the problem occurs when printing, click on the Printing Font popup field, and change the font.
  5. Click OK.
