Problem
how to fix a damaged labor log, checkbook ledger, or other accounting file, when Fix Database doesn't
repair the file.
Diagnosis
Worksheet is damaged. Usually they get 'had trouble with this extraction' or a similar error. Before
doing this, go thru the checklist in TA #13 to make sure there isn't an easier fix.
Solution
1. Choose New Accounting File from the File menu to make a new ledger/log
2. In the new file, choose Add Rows from the Edit menu repeatedly, until there are at least as many rows as in the problem
file. 3. Choose Unprotect Document from the Options (Tools) menu.
4. Switch to the damaged log or ledger.
5. Choose Unprotect Document from the Options (Tools) menu.
6. Click the mouse in the first column of the first data row. For a ledger it's cell A3, for a log it's cell
A2.
7. Scroll down to the last row, hold down the shift key, and click in the far right column of the last data
row. All data cells will be hilighted. Alternate- hold down the mouse and drag down to the last row, far right column.
8. Choose Copy from the Edit menu.
9. Switch to the new file created in step 1.
10. Click in the far right column of the first data row. For a ledger it's cell A3, for a log it's cell A2.
11. Choose Paste from the Edit menu.
12. Make sure data looks the same as the original sheet. Make sure the end--end--end row is still showing
correctly.
13. If everything is OK, choose Save from the File menu.
To adjust the file names in MacNail construction accounting software, follow these steps (optional)
1. Close the damaged worksheet. Close the new worksheet
2. move the damaged sheet out of the Accounting Blanks folder, or trash it
3. Rename new worksheet to old worksheet name
