Ohio has state tax withholding, based on tax tables
that are similar to the federal payroll withholding
tables. The withholding tables changed in 2006,
2007 and 2008 (they have been the only changes
to the withholding tax formulas since 1988).
HINT-- Turtle Creek Software provides free annual updates for
US federal and Ohio state tax withholding rates.

State Unemployment Tax Instructions |
In 2008, Ohio state unemployment insurance tax
applies to the first $9,000 in annual wages for each employee. The
rate for new companies is 5% for construction companies and 2.7% for
others.
After the first year the rate depends on the
employer's experience rating-- the lowest rate is .4% and the highest
is 11.3%.
To enter the Ohio SUTA tax rate into
the Goldenseal payroll software, follow these steps:
- Choose Payroll Setup from the Costs menu, and choose Tax Items
from the submenu.
- You'll see a list of Tax Items. Locate Ohio SUTA tax in the list, and double-click
on it. HINT: If you don't see Ohio SUTA in the list, you'll need
to import your state's payroll info first.

these steps:
- Choose Payroll Setup
from the Costs menu, and choose Tax Packages
from the submenu.
- Click on one of the
existing packages, and click the Duplicate
button.
- Put a checkmark next
to each tax that is included in this
package.

- Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each locality for which
you collect taxes.
