North Carolina collects withholding for state income
tax. Payroll tax amounts are calculated via a
'step' table that is similar to the federal withholding
tax tables. State payroll withholding tax tables
changed in 2008-- rates are the same, but the
highest tax bracket has been eliminated. The
NC withholding formulas have changed 6 times
in the past 18 years.
HINT-- Turtle Creek Software provides free annual updates for
US federal and North Carolina tax withholding rates.
