In 2008 the Rhode Island Employment Security Insurance tax applies
to the first $14,000
of wages for each employee
(down from $16,000
in 2006). The starting
rate for a new business
is 2.41%. After the first
year the rate can
be between 0.6% and
10.0% depending on your
company's fund balance.
There is also an additional .21% job development tax on
the same base rate (starting in 2005 Goldenseal lists this
tax separately for easier tax reporting).
