How the Specifications List is Organized
The Specifications
list is divided into groups of related construction items, using either the 16 CSI divisions, or
MacNail's 30 construction categories. Each subdivision will be shown in bold. The items
it includes will be listed below the heading line.
q Each heading line in the MacNail estimating software includes the following items:

Column A--a brief description of the subdivision.

Column B--a fudge factor that controls just this subdivision. Use it to control the total price that is calculated
for this particular subdivision. If it is equal to 1 (one), there will be no adjustment made to the total
for this subdivision. The total will be passed directly to the Summation. If it is equal to 0 (zero), then no items
in this
subdivision will be included in the bid. If it is equal to any other number, then each item from this section
will be multiplied by that number. For example, typing in 1.25 will increase the price of labor, materials and subcontractors
in this subdivision by a factor of 25%.

Column C--this cell will read yes if the cell in column B is greater than zero. It will read no if column B is
equal to zero (which means that this item will not be included in the bid).

Columns D and K--the code that is used for this subdivision. We use a combination of letters and numbers, since
it is easier to remember than just a number.

Columns E, F and G--these three cells show the total price for this subdivision--divided into labor, materials,
and subcontractors respectively.
