Estimating Roof Dimensions

Dormer and Gable Walls

To see the 'best guess' for the exterior wall area on the dormers and on the 'triangles' at the top of each gable, choose Calculate Now from the OPTIONS menu. You can change the values calculated by the MacNail construction estimating software if they seem wrong.

NOTE: You may need to turn off Document Protection before you can edit these cells. If you are told the cell is locked, choose Unprotect Document from the OPTIONS menu.

NOTE: For a structure with partial gables and/or triangles created by shed roofs, add the square footage by hand.

Downspouts

Type in the number of downspouts that will be needed.

Height of Eaves

The distance from the average ground level to the eaves is calculated for you. You can change the calculated value if it seems wrong.

Roof Overhang

Type in the distance (in feet) that the roof extends beyond the outside walls. If there is more than one roof overhang on the project, type in an average overhang.
