Before we enter the dimensions of our sample project, we'll
need to create a project estimate file specifically for this one job. To do so:
1. Choose *New Estimate from the FILE menu.
2. Click the 'new estimate' button--you now want to make an estimate rather than an estimator.
NOTE: In the MacNail construction estimating software, an estimate is specific to one job. An estimator is
a 'blank
form' that
you can use to set up many estimates (see page 56).
3. Click on MacNail estimator in the list of available estimators.
4. Type in the project name-- 'Smith'.
5. Click OK.
NOTE: You customized the Fixed Costs in the MacNail Estimator in step 1 so the Smith Estimate will include
your Fixed Costs now.
6. A new file will be created. If you need it later, you can use *Open Estimate to find the Smith estimate
file in the Current estimates folder.
When the Smith estimate is completely saved, choose *Dimensions from
the MacNail menu. This will move you to the Dimensions section of the spreadsheet.
