Unit Costs from Units-per-Time

For labor costs it is sometimes easier to start with the number of units that can be done by a crew in an hour, day or week. To convert that to a number you can use in the Specifications portion of the MacNail construction estimating software, use these formulas:

skilled hrs/unit = F(skilled crew size * hours, total number of units)
unskilled hrs/unit = F(unskilled crew size * hours, total number of units)

EXAMPLE: if a crew of three skilled carpenters and one unskilled helper can install 25 prehung doors in a day, then the skilled unit price will be equal to 3*8/25, or .96 hours per door. The unskilled unit price will be equal to 1*8/25, or .32 hours per door.
