Multiple Ledgers

The MacNail construction accounting software lets you handle multiple Ledgers. You can keep old copies of Ledgers around, to refer back to. Or you can have multiple accounts, with a Ledger for each.

If you own more than one business that can share the same Master Index, just create separate Ledgers for each and manage them all from the same folder.

If you want to use more than one Master Index, you will need to create an entirely different Accounts folder for each business. Each Accounts folder should have its own copy of the Accounting Manager and the Cost Control Manager.

They should also each have the folder arrangement shown on page 12.

Probably the easiest way to set up a second business folder:
1. Set up all files for the first business in the regular MacNail Accounts folder.
2. Quit Excel.
3. While in the Finder (on the Desktop), click once on the Accounts folder.
4. Choose Duplicate from the FILE menu.
5. Move the newly created folder into a different folder elsewhere, to avoid confusion.
6. Rename the new folder (Copy of) back to Accounts.
7. If you want to use separate estimating for each business, click on the entire MacNail folder in step 3, instead of just the Accounts folder.
