The Master Index

The MacNail construction accounting software uses the Master Index as a reference sheet for the MacNail's Ledgers and Logbooks.

To see the Master Index, choose *Master Index from the MacNAIL menu.

The Checkbook Ledger, plus the Labor, Material, Subcontractor and Misc Logs, all 'look up' project and payee names from the Master Index. The Labor Log also 'looks up' wage rates and a 'burden' factor for each employee.
The Master Index saves you a great deal of typing, since you only have to type in a single number for each supplier. This also helps you avoid typographic errors.

WARNING: Do not change the name of the Master Index!

Use Print from the FILE menu to print the Master Index. It makes a handy reference sheet to use when entering data.

Changing the Master Index

For faster results, do not have any Ledgers or Logbooks open when you make changes to the Master Index. Another way to prevent delays--choose Calculation from the OPTIONS menu, and click on Manual. Set Calculation back to Automatic when you have finished changing the Master Index.

To add employees, suppliers, subcontractors or projects to the Master Index, type them into the appropriate column.
There is room for 40 items in each column of the Master Index. If you need more room, choose *Add Rows from the EDIT menu.
