2012 US Payroll Tax Tables

We released 2012 tax tables for the US on Jan 11, 2012-- considerably later than usual, thanks to political brinksmanship in the US Congress. Click here for US payroll downloads.

US Federal payroll tax withholding formulas changed for 2012 (they have changed every year since 1988, the first year we started creating payroll software).

WARNING: The FICA withholding rate is scheduled to return to 6.2% on March 1, but it will probably end up being a political football, with another last-minute renewal.

The following states have no state or local income tax withholding: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota , Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming.

The following states changed their payroll withholding tables for 2012: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont,

The following states did not change their withholding formulas for 2012: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin

The following states probably did not change rates for 2012, but their status is still unconfirmed: Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska,

WARNING: There is a bug in the payroll calculators for some states, that shows too much Social Security withholding for 2011 wages, when printing W-2 forms. 2012 payroll tax downloads automatically fix this problem. You can also click the link above for instructions on fixing it manually.

NOTE-- We check all state websites in late December or early January, and then again in late January and early July. That catches most tax revisions, but occasionally we miss one! If your state has revised its tax calculations, please let us know. We expect that 2012 will be a very active year for payroll tax changes.

New Manuals

We are in the process of rewriting and improving our software manuals. Instead of the current two manuals, we plan to have a general Basics manual, plus specialized manuals for accounting, estimating, payroll, project management, rentals and sales/inventory. They'll make info easier to find, and will also allow us to split Goldenseal into a wider range of specialty programs.

The new Basics manual and Estimating manual are now ready in 'first draft' form. Click here to download them. These new manuals are still under development, so we haven't filled in cross references or the index yet, and haven't started on the separate Macintosh manual. Comments of any kind will be greatly appreciated!

Goldenseal User Forum

We recently started a user forum / bulletin board where users can post topics for discussion with Turtlesoft staff and other users. Click here to give it a try!

Update Downloads

Our new update download system is now available, and you can use it to download the latest Goldenseal updates.

There is also an alphabetical Tech Support Index with links to all tech support resources on the Turtle Creek website. It has answers to many Goldenseal problems and questions.

Unit Costs Directory

Over the next few months we are gradually adding web documentation for each construction unit cost in our database of construction estimating costs. Now you can look up more details for each Assembly that comes in the Goldenseal starter files. Each unit cost writup includes labor hours, construction specs and the way we calculated each price.

Cost categories that are currently available on the website-- General Conditions | Site Preparation
Excavation | Concrete | Masonry | Floor Framing | Wall Framing | Deck Framing | Ironwork | Roofing
Windows | Rough Plumbing | HVAC | Rough Electrical

Coming soon-- Exterior Trim | Siding | Insulation | Drywall, Wall & Ceiling Finish

NOTE-- The Goldenseal program already includes unit costs for the complete range of construction, plus special estimating files for painters, drywall contractors, framing contractors and others. You'll find them in the Starter Files but we don't have detailed writeups for them on the website yet.

Do you have Custom Unit Costs?

We are looking for specialty estimating templates for different types of businesses. If you have developed a custom version of Goldenseal with your own unit costs, please contact us! If your cost data is useful to other businesses, we will offer you royalties or make an outright purchase offer for your data.
