2013 US Payroll Tax Tables

We released 2013 payroll tax tables for the US on Jan 8, 2013. Click here for US payroll downloads.

US Federal payroll tax withholding formulas changed for 2013 (they have changed every year since 1988, the first year we started creating payroll software).

1. Choose Payroll Setup from the Costs menu, and choose Tax Items from the submenu.
2. Click on FICA- SS Whold, then click the Edit button.
3. Type 6.2% next to Calculation Method- Percentage.
4. Click OK, then click Close to leave the Tax Items list.

NOTE-- If you accidentally under-withhold on FICA for 2013 pay periods, you will need to increase withholding in future pay periods, to make up for it. Click the link for instructions. IRS expects you to use the new withholding rates by February 15, and complete any adjustments by March 15.

The following states changed their payroll withholding tables for 2013: California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont

The following states did not change their withholding formulas for 2013: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin

The following states probably will change their rates for 2013, but do not have formulas available as of 1/8/2013: Connecticut, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio

The following states have no state or local income tax withholding: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota , Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming.

NOTE-- We check all state websites in late December or early January, and then at least once, later in the year. That catches most tax revisions, but occasionally we miss one! If your state has changed its tax calculations, please let us know. We expect that 2013 will be an active year for payroll tax changes.

Version 4.81 Update

We released a minor update for Macintosh users on January 7, 2013, and will release the Windows version in a few days. This release fixes a few bugs that turned up since the version 4.8 update, and revises the calculation method slightly for Canadian provincial payroll taxes (affecting BC users only). It is available for download now.

Version 4.8 Update

Goldenseal version 4.8 was released on October 16. The 4.8 update is free to anyone who purchased Goldenseal after Sept 1, 2011, since it took longer than our usual update cycle.

Note that we currently do not send out email notifications for new versions. Our ISP discontinued their email listserv service in early 2012, and we probably will not be able to replace it.
