2x4 Exterior Wall Framing Cost

Construction Item Description

Construction estimating unit cost for 2x4 exterior wall framing built with wood studs.

Unit Size

One lineal foot of wall framing.

Labor Costs

We figure that a carpenter can frame about 8 lineal feet of exterior wall per hour.

Material Costs

The cost includes 5.8 feet of 2x4 lumber per foot of wall-- based on 24" stud spacing and 8 foot wall height. The price also includes 4 lineal feet of lumber per foot of wall for double top and bottom plates.

The stud quantity is adjusted for different stud spacings (from the Structural Dimensions screen) and ceiling heights (from the Basic Dimensions screen).

Suggested Quantity

Total exterior wall length.

Source of Construction Pricing

Based on crew timing from Turtle Creek Construction. The labor cost covers remodeling and small additions. For new constructions with experienced framing crews, you can probably reduce the labor hours by 25% to 40%.
