Server Setup

What kind of computer can I use as a server?

You can use any Macintosh or Windows computer as a Goldenseal server.

If you are connecting through a LAN (Local Area Network), the server will need an EtherNet card and a connection to an EtherNet router.

If some clients connect via dial-up, the server will need a phone connection and a dedicated phone line that it can answer.

For the server you can use any Macintosh that supports Open Transport (generally System 8.6 and newer), or any Windows computer with Windows 98, Win NT, Win 2000, Win ME, Win XP or Windows Vista.

HINT-- Generally you should use your fastest computer as a server. If you have both Macs and Windows and don't care which you use, a Windows machine will usually be slightly faster as a server.
