Firewall Settings for Goldenseal

How do I set my firewall to allow Goldenseal to run?

Your computer firewall protects you against malicious attacks by outside parties, who could otherwise gain access to your computer via the Internet.

You'll need to set your firewall to allow Goldenseal to use your network. Otherwise the multi-user version won't be able to send information between the computers on your network.

Windows Firewall

To set the firewall in Windows XP, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, and choose Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on the Windows Firewall icon.
  3. Click the Exceptions tab.
  4. Click the Add Program button.
  5. Select the Goldenseal Application from the list of programs.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Turn on the checkbox next to Display a notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program.
  8. Click OK.

If you are using a 3rd party firewall such as McAffee, you'll also need to allow Goldenseal access through that firewall. Consult the program manual for your firewall program, for instructions.

Macintosh Firewall

To set the firewall in Macintosh OSX, follow these steps:

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Double-click on Sharing.
  3. Click the Firewall tab.
  4. Click the New button.
  5. Click the Port Name popup field, and choose Other.
  6. Type 18259 into the Port Number field.
  7. Type Goldenseal into the Description field.
  8. Click OK.
