Customer Discounts

How do I use customer discounts?

Goldenseal lets you set up a "grid" of customer discounts. For each group of customers, you can give a different series of discounts on different types of sales items.

Setting up Discounts

To set up a "grid" of customer discounts, follow these steps:

1. Choose Income Setup from the Income menu, and choose Customer Discounts from the submenu.
2. Click the New button.
3. Enter a name for a group of customers who all get the same discount.
4. Click OK
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each group of customers who all get the same discount.

Next, set up the discounts for each type of item that you sell. Follow these steps:

1. Choose Income Setup from the Income menu, and choose Item Discounts from the submenu.
2. Click the New button.
3. Enter a name for a group of items that all get the same discount.
4. Enter the percentage discount that you give to each type of customer when they purchase these items.
5. Click OK
6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for each group of items that all get the same discount.

Entering Customer Discounts

To enter customer discounts, follow these steps:

1. Choose Customers from the Accounts menu.
2. Locate a customer account.
3. Enter a discount into the Discount field.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each customer that gets a discount.

HINT-- If you are giving a discount to many customers at one time, use the Replace All command so you don't have to type it into each account individually.

Entering Item Discounts

To enter item discounts, follow these steps:

1. Choose Cost Items from the Costs menu.
2. Locate an item that you sell.
3. Enter a discount into the Discount field.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each sales item.
5. If you use Assemblies for products that you sell, choose Assemblies from the Costs menu and repeat steps 2 and 3 for each item that you sell.

HINT-- If you are giving a discount on many items at one time, use the Replace All command so you don't have to type it into each item individually.

Using Customer Discounts

When you enter a Sales transaction, Goldenseal will automatically fill in the correct discount for each item that you enter into an Item breakdown.
