Setting Printer Margins

Problem

Goldenseal accounting software is printing too much white space at the page margins. Cutting off text or other items.

Diagnosis

Is the problem happening around the edges of the paper? If so, it's a page margin problem.

Solution

Most of the Goldenseal printed forms use a 1/4" margin (7mm), which should be sufficient for nearly all printers.

If the pages are cutting off, it's usually a Page Setup problem.

In Windows, follow these steps:

1. Choose Page Setup from the File menu.
2. Check the margins. If they are too wide, type in 1/4".
3. Click OK.

In Macintosh, follow these steps:

1. Choose Page Setup from the File menu.
2. If the Paper size is set to US Letter Small, change it to US Letter.
3. Click OK.

NOTE-- It's possible that some printers may have some other way to set margins. Check the printer documentation or contact the printer manufacturer for details.

Nearly all printers have an "unprintable margin" and can't print to the very edge of the paper. If the printer's unprintable margin is more than 1/4" / 7mm, then it may be necessary to reset the layouts and shrink them so they have a wider margin. To do that, follow these steps:

1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Printed Forms from the submenu.
2. Use the popup fields at upper left to locate the desired form.
3. Choose Size & Margins from the Options menu.
4. Enter a larger value into the Margins popup field.
5. Click OK.
6. The overall layout will become smaller, since there is less available space on the page.
7. It may be necessary to reduce the size of some items, or move them closer together, so they'll fit on the page.
8. When the layout looks good, choose Save from the File menu.
