"sad Mac", computer won't start up and boot while trying to run MacNail construction software

Diagnosis

try to boot from floppy.

disconnect extra SCSI drives (may be a SCSI ID conflict).

replace hard drive? Boot from external hard drive or CD?

reinstall system.

Try Norton Utilities, SUM, MacTools?

Solution

The Sad Mac may be a serious problem with no easy answer or diagnostics. Anything from bad RAM to a damaged CPU to some other hardware problem. Or a seriously corrupted hard drive so there is no system to boot from.

It may be time to take it to the repair shop!
