Company File Won't Open

Problem

Windows version-- double-click on company file doesn't open Goldenseal business management software. Icon shows up as something other than Goldenseal's tree.

Some of these things apply to Mac OS X also.

Diagnosis

Is the file extension correct? Click on file and see what Windows says it is-- it should be "Goldenseal company file " and the file extension should be .glds

HINT-- Sometimes file diagnoses are easier if you turn on the display of file extensions.

If registry is screwed up, it's easiest to just un-install and then install again. User can also change extension registry (explained below).

Solution

1. Open the Folder Options dialog
WIN 98-- click Start button, choose Settings, choose Folder Options
WIN 2000-- click Start button, choose Settings, choose Control Panel. Folder Options is one of the items.
2. click the File Types tab. You can delete items, add items, or change the application (.EXE) which opens a given file extension.
